About Us

The Digital Content and Multimedia Technology Research Center (below referred to as "the Center"), led by Professor Ing-Jer Huang, was established in 2013 as a first-level research center of the University. The purpose of the Center is to effectively cultivate multimedia technology R&D talents, to enhance the standard of multimedia software and hardware development technology, and to implement industry-academia cooperation.

There are 4 points for the Center's current direction:

Hardware Security
In view of the rapid development of the Internet of Things (IoT), the number of devices and its architecture will be a challenge to maintain system security. Based on the understanding of embedded systems, the Center is committed to researching information security at the hardware architecture level. Through researching the detection and injection of hardware Trojans, the Center plays the role of a white-hat hacker to find security vulnerabilities and propose solutions. The Center has achieved initial results in Trojan horse detection by combining various hardware Trojan horse detection methods, which can reduce the number of normal signals to be filtered while detecting hardware Trojans in the benchmark.

Intelligent Physiological Sensing and Application Development
With the development of sensing technology and Internet of Things (IoT), intelligent physiological sensing can be utilized in daily life, so that people can understand their physical status at any time. Based on the sensing results, it can even be used to provide further intelligent services, such as intelligent environmental control that adjusts the environment according to the user's needs. The laboratory has developed embedded physiological sensing chip prototypes, smart clothing as sensing media, specialized physiological sensing APP, interactive physiological sensing APP and other technologies for intelligent physiological sensing. In cooperation with the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), we have also developed a smart human thermal sensing prediction technology that can predict human thermal sensation through physiological signals. In the future, we will continue to explore and develop physiological sensing and its applications.

Underwater Image Recognition and Smart Shrimp Farming
The pain point of traditional aquaculture is the lack of information transparency and unpredictable results. Through the farmers' observation and aquaculture experience, they often miss the critical time points such as disease and water quality changes, or make mistakes in baiting and water changing, resulting in wastage. In order to achieve this, the Center uses deep learning underwater image recognition technology to bring more underwater information, and integrates water quality sensing and growth information of aquaculture species to build an intelligent aquaculture strategy system through the Internet of Things (IoT) architecture, which can help aquaculturists identify the critical time points to avoid losses. The system is also integrated with on-site equipment (e.g., baiting machines) to provide a more comprehensive intelligent aquaculture system, which can help farmers to immediately recognize problems and take correct management decisions, thus making aquaculture a risk-controlled industry with high value-added benefits.

Science Education
Taiwan plays an important role in the global IT industry, with Taiwan's electrical and electronic information industry accounting for more than 50% of Taiwan's total industrial output. Taiwan's reputation as a science and technology island is not only reflected in its impressive development of the technology industry, but also in the Center's desire to cultivate the scientific literacy of Taiwan's citizens through the popularization of science, so that when faced with social issues related to technology, the public can participate in public issues and reach a consensus with a scientific way of thinking. At the same time, the Center aims to popularize the knowledge of information science that is familiar to practitioners in the field of science and technology to the general public, so as to cultivate scientifically literate citizens who are able to face the important issues of modern society.
